Alternative Course Credit in the BSN Program

The School of Nursing has established procedures for assessing, validating, and evaluating objective evidence of prior learning (academic work, or professional experience) and skill attainment related to course outcomes in order to award course credit or exemption for undergraduate nursing courses. Students may validate prior learning where applicable through:

  1. Preparing a portfolio of professional experience to demonstrate acquisition of content and skills commensurate with the outcomes/competencies/ objectives of specific course(s)

  2. Submitting course syllabi and transcripts to be considered for course equivalency. The student must demonstrate satisfactory academic standing at the program at which the course work was completed. Credit for such courses and applicability to the degree will be determined by School of Nursing faculty.

  3. Sitting for a proctored National League for Nursing RN Competency exam in the areas of Anatomy and Physiology, or Microbiology in such cases when the student completed required coursework more than 7 years prior to application to the BSN.
